Born in Bordeaux, Boisgontier has travelled to the Middle and Far East mainly in India. He lived in Paris and in St-Paul but finally set home in Vence, France. He studied sculpture in Bordeaux and in Paris, but soon gave it up to pursue photography. He then returned to sculptures and collaborated with Ecole de Nice artist Arman, his neighbour in St-Paul. Boisgontier explains in an interview that he is more attracted to sculpture because it is concrete. “Contrarily to photography that is artificial. In photography I had the impression that I was a seer, whereas with sculpture I participate in the creation.” Having worked with several materials such as wood, stone, plaster and fabric, today his works are made out of bronze or cut metal.
