(1935 ~ )

Born in Bordeaux, Boisgontier has travelled to the Middle and Far East, mainly in India. He lived in Paris, Nice, and St-Paul but finally settled in Nice, France. He studied sculpture in Bordeaux and Paris, but soon gave it up to pursue photography. He then returned to sculptures and collaborated with L’École de Nice artist Arman, his neighbour in St-Paul. Boisgontier explains in an interview that he is more attracted to sculpture because it is concrete. “Contrarily to photography that is artificial. In photography I had the impression that I was a seer, whereas with sculpture I participate in the creation.” Having worked with several materials such as wood, stone, plaster and fabric, today his works are made out of bronze or cut metal. Boisgontier continues his work today, exploring new concepts of sculpture in Nice, France.
